I′m driving home, miles away
I think that just yesterday
It rained and I couldn't see
But there, I know, they must′ve stood
Out to the sea they looked
They're there, I feel it in me
Seconds turn into minutes
Minutes turn into hours
As they wait for the moment to finish
They stare at the lighthouse tower

The strangers who wait by the shore
Still look like they used to before
And they'll climb up that ladder, nothing else matters
′Til they go home again


I stop on the roadside
To look at the hazy light
The sea stands before my eyes
Again they are standing there
Staring at the water, where?
What are they hoping to find?
Maybe it′s liberation
Or maybe it's suffocation
Everyone who has been there
Everyone has it in them

And the strangers who wait by the shore
Still look like they used to before
And they′ll climb up that ladder, nothing else matters
'Til they go home again

And I will remember their names
I′ll hold on whatever it takes
And I'll climb up that ladder, nothing else matters
Then I′ll go home again
