There a little girl, vibrant and caring was she
She cared for a little bear, she said, ′It was given to me
Everywhere it went with her, on the bus to school and back home
When holding it in her arms, she'd never feel alone
A time came when she was afraid of what the next day would bring
Her bear became the only friend to whom she could share these things
She was comforted by the innocence and good he brought from the past
Though he couldn′t help her answer the many questions she had to ask

The little girl we had known was just so beautiful
We imagined where she would be

From all the harm this world could bring


Sitting on the edge of her bed, troubling thoughts revisited
But this time round they made themselves comfortable and stayed, they insisted
Weary she grew each day, losing battles along the way
Fading in front of her eyes before on a bed she lay
Unable to understand how such a thing is known to man
Finding it hard to believe, despite her pleas, they stood by and did nothing
